Pregnancy Ultrasound

The basic part of ultrasound scan during pregnancy is performend in two-dimentional technique, in witch we observe interior sections of the uterus, the outlines of the babie's body and the images of it's internal organs. This is the most important part of the test when specialist assess the size and shape of the various parts of the body, anatomical structures of the fetus and the quantity of the amniotic fluid.

In our clinic specialists use modern VOLUSON Pro ultrasound apparatus that enables two and three-dimensional image reconstruction based on the fetus and the uterine cavity, in real time, showing the movement of your baby. By studying the three-dimensional view it is possible not only to obtain a beautiful image of your child, but also to achieve anatomical cross sections which are not available in the study of two-dimensional scans, facilitating the expanded diagnosis of congenital defects.

The so-called 4D imaging is three-dimensional imaging shown in the real-time to allow observation of fetal movements, heart rate and provide a lot of information not available in conventional tests. Thanks to this examination it is easier to visualize some of the features of the fetus, which may indicate a variety of diseases including genetic.

4D ultrasound vsgenetic ultrasound scan

Recent reports indicate that small (in the sense of the extent of) birth defects such as cleft lip and palate, polydactyly (extra fingers), distortion of hands and feet and spina bifida (spine cleft) can be more reliably assessed through 4D imaging. Other subtle features such as low-set ears and facial irregularities are visible more clearly in 3D/4D imagining than in the classic 2D scan, which is important in the diagnosis of Down syndrome and other chromosomal abnormalities and genetic defects.

Psychological effect

Three- and four-dimensional scan enables the parents to see the child's face and its body almost as vivid as it would be seen on the picture. Many psychologists believe that this contributes to the development of an earlier and stronger emotional connection between parents and child. It should be emphasized, that the observation of the image of a child when an ultrasound is performed is not only medically significant but also important in building relationships between parents and their baby.
