After entering the office and primal medical interview, patient will need to undress or uncover the corresponding part of the body (abdomen, breasts, neck, etc.) and lie down on the couch in the manner advised by the person conducting the examination: usually on the back or on the left or right side. Than the doctor covers the skin or the ultrasound probe with gel (this may be the only unpleasant moment, because the gel is sometimes cold).
Then we just follow the instructions (e.g. take a deep breath and hold it). The procedure might be painful only in specific situations, for example if the specialist has to press the sore spot during the examination. Ultrasound can take from 5 minutes to one hour - depending on the organ/area diagnosed. After the test, we wipe off the gel and wait for the result that are available after few minutes.
