What is electrocoagulation?

Electrocoagulation is an electrosurgical procedure performed in dermatology and cosmetology, as well. Electrocoagulation consists of using high frequency electric current resulting in cellular destruction (coagulation of proteins).

What is the process of electrocoagulation?

It is performed under local anesthesia to improve patient's comfort. The treatment consists of touching the affected skin areas using a special electrode, commonly known as electrocautery needle. Under the influence of electric current, the proteins coagulate, which then leads to removal of undesired changes or lesions, as well as, if necessary, to closing of blood vessels . The duration of treatment depends on the size and number of changes to remove.

INDICATIONS:

This procedure is mostly performed in order to get rid of skin changes: warts of various origins , milk spots, fibromas, atheromas and dilation of blood vessels. Occasionally, electrocoagulation is used to remove unwanted hair. Electrocoagulation is also used for the removal of advanced erosions.

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

- diabetes;

- blood coagulation disorders;

- pacemaker.
