Profhilo is an EXCLUSIVE skin re-modelling treatment that will give you visible results in just 2 visits. This revolutionary NEW treatment to rival dermal fillers takes just 10 minutes, with 5 injection points into your area of concern. It stimulates 4 different types of collagen and elastin due to the slow release of hyaluronic acid, and it is this stimulation that results in significant improvement of tissue quality.

 How does it work?

Profhilo® is based on IBSA’s patented technology. It uses stable, hybrid cooperative complexes of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) at high and low molecular weights. This technology has allowed IBSA to present a unique concentration of Hyaluronic Acid to the market: 64mg in 2ml, injectable with a 29g TW needle. The hybrid cooperative complexes generate a dual action, owing to a slow, long-lasting release of high and low molecular weight Hyaluronic Acid.

Thanks to the unique characteristics of Profhilo®, remodelling skin laxity is possible in just two sessions by injecting into in the superficial subcutaneous layer of the skin. There’s a one month interval between each treatment.

Will it work for my skin type?

This treatment is aimed at patients who have visible signs of ageing skin. It’s usually for people aged between 40 and 60 years old. However, this does not mean Profhilo® can’t work on others. In younger patients, it will have a more of a preventive effect.

We start losing a significant amount of collagen, elastin and Hyaluronic Acid after we reach 30. At this age, we should start to consider preserving ourselves. This is the time when many people would consider their first toxin injections as the first lines start to appear. In some, the tissue quality has dropped so significantly that they may look older for their age; however, they may not be ready for dermafillers yet.

This is where Profhilo® fits beautifully.

There is no age upper limit either. In fact, in older patients, we have often seen more dramatic results. 60+ clients need to be managed carefully. For example, if there are deep folds present or the skin has lost elasticity then the combination treatments with Profhilo® may be more suitable. Consultation is very important. If the patient is looking for very subtle results, this treatment delivers. However, if they are looking for a lifting of the face, neck or any other area, then the combination with fillers, threads, surgery should be recommended.

Where can Profhilo be used?

Profhilo is most commonly used for facial areas, but can also effectively be used for rejuvenating the neck, decollete, arms, knees and hands.

Why should I have this treatment?

We start losing a significant amount of collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid after we reach 30, and it is at this age that we start to consider preventative treatments.

This is the time when many people would consider their first anti-wrinkle injections as the first lines start to appear. If you feel your facial tissue quality has dropped significantly, and that you may look older for your age, but are not ready for dermafillers yet, Profhilo may be the best treatment for you.

 *  It actually compliments all other aesthetic or cosmetic procedures by significantly improving the tissue quality

Profhilo diffuses within the tissue after injection and over the period of 4 weeks it stimulates 4 different types of collagen and elastin. It doesn’t need to be massaged and leaves no nodules. Due to the its high spread ability, only 5 injection points on each side of the face are needed, which means patients find the treatment much more comfortable.

Pre-treatment advice

Please, do not drink any alcohol during the 24 hours before your treatment. We also advise that you avoid using aspirin or other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs a couple of days before your treatment (unless they are taken for a chronic medical condition). Avoiding these medications will reduce your risk of bruising at the point of injection. Ask your medical practitioner if you have any concerns.

How many treatments will I need?

To achieve the best long-lasting results, two treatments are recommended with a four-week interval. Some people may see the results within first week, but the best outcomes of the treatment will be visible four weeks after the second treatment.

Aftercare

You can have Profhilo treatment and continue with your day to day activities. However, we  do advice you avoid wearing makeup, except for mineral make up, which we can apply in clinic after your treatment.

We also recommend that you do not go to the gym, sauna’s, steam-rooms or swimming on the same day as treatment; and avoid touching the injection site.

FAQs

Q: Is it expected to have lumps where the Profhilo has been injected, and how long will they be there for?

A: Following on from Profhilo there is the chance that localised lumps can form where each of the injection sites have been. These lumps will subside usually within 4-6 hours after the treatment but they can last up to 24 hours. Not every client gets these swellings and if you have had treatment and are concerned please do give us a call.

Q: How much downtime is there after treatments?

A: The downtime is minimal. When injected using the five-point technique on each side of the face, each insertion is immediately noticeable.  However, they start diffusing very quickly and they disappear completely by next day.

After the treatment, it is recommended to avoid physical strain and sports for 24 hours. Please also avoid having further cosmetic procedures for 48 hours. It is not recommended to have sauna or steamy bath for the first few days either. It’s best to stay out of the sun if any bruising or prolonged swelling occurs.

Q: How quickly will I notice results?

A: Patients can expect increased firmness, elasticity and an overall improved quality of the skin for up to six months.

Q: Will people be able to tell I’ve had “work done”?

A: Usually, people won’t be able to tell you’ve had a treatment. But this depends on the skin condition being treated and the desired outcome. Profhilo® can significantly improve skin laxity. By increasing the tissue density some patients have seen some lifting, which can be noticeable.  Most patients say they were complemented on how fresh they looked, but hardly ever asked what they had done.

Q: Will there be any side effects?

A: Hyaluronic Acid is very well tolerated by the skin. The only reported side effects are bruising and mild swelling at the injection sites. These generally disappear in a short period of time and are associated with the needle, not the product.

Q: Is the treatment safe?

A: Profhilo® was launched in February 2015 in Italy. It’s been used worldwide ever since. Over 150,000 patients have been treated so far with no adverse reactions reported. From a safety perspective, Profhilo®  is highly biocompatible. That’s because it is made from ultrapure, natural Hyaluronic Acid and is stabilised without the addition of chemical cross-linking agents. This reduces the risk of adverse reactions. The product has also won numerous awards.

Q: How will I know if the side effects are normal, or something serious has happened?

A: After your treatment, the common effects are mild redness, slight swelling and possible bruising. The treatment area may feel tender to touch and all of these effects are normal, will subside in a few days, but may last up to a week. Each day everything should improve slightly and the area should look more normal and feel better.

It is very uncommon to have any serious side effects, however if you do experience any of the following, please call the clinic immediately, or if after hours, seek help from a GP or A&E:

*  swelling that is getting worse as time passes

*  increase in pain and getting more severe with time

*  skin feeling hot, redness increasing and becoming worse in time

*  skin near the treatment area or along the side of the nose looking pale/white or greyish in colour on the day or day after the treatment, and pain increasing in this area

*  generally feeling unwell in the days following your treatment

Q: What if I don’t like the results or it looks too unnatural?

A: Our Medical Injectors are experienced with all aspects of HA Dermal Fillers and the type of results that can be achieved. Dermal filler treatment is not ‘one size fits all’, and the injector will discuss the best ‘look’ for you in your bespoke, detailed consultation.  We can assure you that your treatment will be delivered safely, and in accordance with your wishes based on a thorough consultation. Dermal Fillers are a popular treatment because most people are really happy with the results. Your Medical Injector will endeavour to completely understand your expectations, however we cannot guarantee how much you will love the result!

Q: Is it safe to have any treatment if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

A: We do not recommend that you have any injectable treatments if you suspect or can confirm that you are pregnant. We also recommend that you have completely finished breast feeding before returning for your aesthetic treatments.

Q: What can I do to ensure I get the best results from my injectable treatments?

A: Here are a few tips to optimise the outcome of your treatment:

   *  Avoid having any alcohol the day before your treatment. This will help to minimize the chance of bruising.

   * In the week before your treatment, try to avoid taking aspirin, ibuprofen or any other type of anti-inflammatory medication as this will also increase your risk of a bruise occurring.

   * For Botox – please do not plan to have any other facial treatments (peels, facials, waxing, threading, semi-permanent makeup) for a week following your treatment. It is ok to have these treatments at any time before your Botox visit.

   * For Dermal Fillers – please do not plan to have any other skin treatments (peels, facials, microdermabrasion, micro needling) for 1 week prior and 2 weeks after your dermal filler treatment.

   * If you have been unwell with a cold virus, cold sore (herpes) or any other skin rash or condition, please phone the clinic to check if you should still attend your appointment. Your general medical health is important, and we are happy to reschedule your aesthetic treatment if necessary.

After your treatment, please closely follow the aftercare advice given to you by your Medical Injector, and please do not apply anything else to the treatment area, unless previously discussed.
